The Irresistible Allure Of The Page

Written by  Priscilla K. Garatti

I so want an ocean-size block of time to work on quotes and pictures and poems...my greatest need--I bump up against it time and again--is uninterrupted time alone. ~Journal Entry

Three nights ago I lay down to sleep and thought, "One more day."  I could almost taste the upcoming time off.  I felt weary from the grueling pace of managing hurting clients, too many meetings and endless paperwork.  Then the unexpected.  A training class was cancelled and my boss said, "You have the time planned away from the office.  Go ahead and take the day off."

I ran for the page.  Writing for me is refuge from a cacophonous culture.  I enjoy writing in longhand.  I make sketches of images that surface.  I record quotes and poems.  And this day, this serendipitous day of latitude, prayers flowed from my pen.

Thank you, God, that you are aware of me, that you get me, that I have nothing to prove to you--that you love and allow my process--that I can look for your favor--that I can expect your provision, your wisdom, your revelation to me in the midst of my longings, my disappointments, my aging self.

Thank you, kind sovereign, for providing this gift, this day of greater margin, this deep comfort to my ragged heart.  Thank you for your superior kindness, your help, your strength, your love.  This world is competitive, and there are holes in my life--a colander.  Yet perhaps the holes act as the filtering agents--to keep only the good--toxins rinsed, leaving me cleansed and refreshed. Yes, the holes must be okay.

Thank you that you allow me to experience your scent--perfume that stays on my clothes.  And your sound--the healing tones of rushing water and waves.  Thank you that you allow me to glimpse your crown, reflecting the brilliance of your kingdom.  Thank you for your pathway lined with ancient, welcoming trees.

Thank you that I can lift my face to you.  Fearless.  Thank you that I can let go, open my arms and allow your light to penetrate my life.  Thank you that I stand on a faultless platform--your love.

Thank you for your whispers of affection echoing through my spirit--your divine breath in my ear.

What Readers Are Saying

In Missing God Priscilla takes a brave and unflinching look at grief and the myriad ways in which it isolates one person from another. The characters are full-bodied and the writing is mesmerizing. Best of all, there is ample room for hope to break through. This is a must read.
